Lower December CPI Figure Shows Success of China's Price-cooling Measures: NDRC

The decline in China's December consumer price index (CPI) compared to November shows China has achieved some success in cooling prices, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said Thursday.

China's CPI rose 4.6 percent year on year in December, slightly lower than the 28-month high of 5.1 percent in November, official data released Thursday showed.

The NDRC forecasts first-quarter CPI to be at a high level as imported inflationary pressures and increased demand caused by the Spring Festival push up prices, the NDRC said in a report posted on its website.

The government will continue to take measures to stabilize prices, including by boosting supply, the report said.
