ICBC Funds 1,200 Cataract Patients in Siping, Jilin to Regain Eyesight

Recently, the “Lifeline Express” Hospital Train funded by Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited (ICBC) travelled to Siping City, Jilin Province to surgically bring eyesight to 1,200 local impoverished cataract patients free of charge in the next three months. So far, ICBC has donated RMB26.4 million to the “Lifeline Express” to help over 10,000 cataract patients in poverty regain eyesight.

According to an official of ICBC, the Bank funds the “Lifeline Express” program in Siping with RMB4 million this time not only to bring eyesight to local cataract patients for free, but also build a cataract treatment center at Siping Central Hospital to improve local medical facilities and the diagnosis and treatment level. Since 2008, ICBC has funded over 10,000 impoverished cataract patients to receive surgeries free of charge in eight provinces including Guizhou, Inner Mongolia, Yunnan, Henan, Shanxi, Jilin, Gansu and Sichuan. The patients, having regained eyesight, experience noticeably improved life quality and their families are more hopeful for a happy life.

Lifeline Express, launched by the Chinese Foundation for Lifeline Express, is a mobile hospital train travelling to impoverished or remote areas in need to treat local cataract patients. Besides donating to cataract patients in poverty for free surgeries, ICBC also promotes the establishment of a long-term charity mechanism. Currently, it has funded the construction of an ophthalmic microsurgery training center in Huhhot, Inner Mongolia and a cataract treatment center respectively in Chuxiong, Yunnan and Bazhong, Sichuan. These centers will provide teaching and training to local doctors on ophthalmology and surgical operations until they are fully capable of independent operations to continuously benefit the local patients suffering from eye diseases. Meanwhile, ICBC has also launched an online green channel for donation. By the end of 2018, more than RMB1.65 million donations were accumulatively received and entirely used in the treatment of impoverished cataract patients.
