Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.63 percent to 3,550.88 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.26 percent higher at 15,187.61 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.17 trillion yuan (about 181.1 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 1.27 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to the paper-making, cement and national defense sectors led the gains, while those related to semiconductors and breeding led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of fast-growing enterprises, gained 0.55 percent to close at 3,115.09 points on Wednesday.
