British stocks decreased on Thursday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down 7.97 points or 0.10 percent at 7,704.40 points.

BP, a British multinational oil and gas company, soared 2.20 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. United Utilities Group and Royal Dutch Shell A rose by 1.97 percent and 1.51 percent, respectively.

The shares of Mediclinic International, an international private hospital group, lost 5.70 percent. Burberry Group, a British luxury fashion house, dropped 2.80 percent. Compass Group, a catering and support services supplier, dropped 2.37 percent.
