British stocks decreased on Tuesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down 97.64 points or 1.26 percent at 7,632.64 points.

Fresnillo, the international mining group, soared 3.12 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Smiths Group and Evraz rose by 1.74 percent and 1.32 percent, respectively.

NMC Health, the multinational health care company, with its shares losing 4.77 percent. Direct Line Insurance Group, a British insurance company, dropped 4.27 percent. Severn Trent, a British water company, dropped 4.26 percent.
