British stocks rose on Monday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up 39.52 points or 0.51 percent closing at 7,741.29 points.

EasyJet, the British budget airlines, soared 3.79 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Johnson Matthey and DS Smith rose by 3.45 percent and 2.99 percent, respectively.

Smurfit Kappa Group, a leading corrugated packaging company in Europe, lost 7.16 percent. Evraz, the international mining group, dropped 2.68 percent. Shire, a global specialty biopharmaceutical company, dropped 2.28 percent.
