Chinese Shares Stage Rebound Wednesday
 

Chinese stocks staged a rebound Wednesday with a recovery in market sentiment as the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.27 percent to end at 2,915.73 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.92 percent higher at 9,501.34 points. Combined turnover of the two bourses stood at 348.2 billion yuan (about 53.8 billion U.S. dollars).

Some 2,431 stocks registered growth Wednesday, with 784 posting declines.

Broad recovery was felt in the afternoon session after a lukewarm opening in the morning, with steel makers leading the surge.

Xining Special Steel soared by the daily limit of 10 percent to 5.01 yuan, with similar maximum rises posted by Bayi Iron and Steel, Liuzhou Iron and Steel, and Beijing Shougang.

Wine and liquor makers also saw broad pickup. Golden Seed Winery gained over 7 percent to finish at 6.61 yuan, while Hengshui Laobaigan Liquor rose 6.37 percent to 21.21 yuan.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.08 percent to close at 1,563.79 points Wednesday.
