German stocks closed flat on Tuesday, with the benchmark DAX index up 65.96 points, or 0.53 percent, to close at 12,609.85 points.

Material manufacturer Covestro won the most among the blue chips, with its shares up 2.18 percent. Tire specialist Continental and pharmaceutical company Merck rose by 1.64 percent and 1.44 percent respectively.

Commerzbank lost the most among the blue chips, by falling 1.57 percent. German airlines Lufthansa and industrial giant Thyssenkrupp went down by 1.16 percent and 1.01 percent respectively.

Manufacturing and electronics company Siemens was the most-traded share with a turnover of 213.75 million euros (250.08 million U.S. dollars).
