German stocks closed flat on Tuesday, with the benchmark DAX index down 35.99 points, or 0.29 percent, to close at 12,234.34 points.

Industrial giant Thyssenkrupp lost 3.48 percent, the top loser among the blue chips, followed by airlines Lufthansa and Deutsche Post, which lost 2.13 percent and 1.27 percent respectively.

Personal-care company Beiersdorf gained 2.52 percent, becoming the top gainer. Material manufacturer Covestro advanced 1.95 percent. Energy group E.ON went up by 1.74 percent.

Automotive manufacturer Daimler was the most traded share with a turnover of 294.05 million euros (343.21 million U.S. dollars).
