German stocks closed flat on Wednesday, with the benchmark DAX index up 17.19 points, or 0.14 percent, to close at 12,695.16 points.

Automotive manufacturer Volkswagen won the most among the blue chips, with its shares up 1.82 percent. Marketplace organizer for the trading of shares and securities Deutsche Boerse group and German material manufacturer Covestro rose by 1.05 percent and 1.00 percent respectively.

Tire specialist Continental lost the most among the blue chips, by falling 1.49 percent. German industrial giant Thyssenkrupp and automotive manufacturer Daimler went down by 1.29 percent and 0.82 percent respectively.

Daimler was the most-traded share with a turnover of 281.91 million euros (326.39 million U.S. dollars).
