U.S. Stocks Close Mixed As Tech Shares Retreat

U.S. stocks ended mixed on Thursday as the decline of tech-weighted shares dragged the broader market.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 95.02 points, or 0.38 percent, to 25,241.41. The S&P 500 fell 1.98 points, or 0.07 percent, to 2,770.37. The Nasdaq Composite Index decreased 54.17 points, or 0.70 percent, to 7,635.07.
The Dow's modest gains were mainly powered by the advancing of McDonald's stocks. Shares of McDonald's surged 4.37 percent in late trading.
Meanwhile, the decline of tech-heavy sectors contributed to the losses of the rest market. Major tech giants such as Facebook and Netflix were among the worst performers. Shares of both companies fell more than 1.60 percent at the market closing.
Investors also digested a batch of newly released economic data.
In the week ending June 2, the seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims was 222,000, a decrease of 1,000 from the previous week's revised level of 223,000, the U.S. Labor Department reported on Thursday. The reading was lower than a market forecast of 225,000.
The more stable four-week moving average was 225,500, an increase of 2,750 from the previous week's revised average, according to the same filing.
