ICBC Supports Non-local ETC Card Recharge

As China’s networking of Electronic Toll Collection System (“ETC”) makes progress  ICBC has recently launched the first integrated ETC card recharging platform in China. Pre-paid ETC cards issued in Beijing can be recharged in other areas through ICBC’s self-service terminals and those issued in other areas can also be recharged non-locally afterwards.

As an advanced traffic toll collection method, ETC has been rapidly developing in China in recent years. ICBC alone has issued over 4 million ETC debit cards. Given that ETC debit card holders cannot recharge the card non-locally in case of insufficient balance, ICBC has developed and launched an “ETC Card Recharge Platform” to enable all pre-paid ETC cards designed and issued based on the regulations of the Ministry of Transport to be recharged non-locally. Currently, the holders of ETC cards issued in Beijing can recharge ETC cards in other areas by selecting ETC card recharge after clicking the payment button at an ICBC self-service terminal (including inquiry & payment machine and transfer & remittance machine).

According to an ICBC official, to better satisfy the ETC card holder’s diversified demands, ICBC will launch a special service platform for car users, providing diversified services such as fuel charging and top-up, online penalty payment, car washing, airport shuttle, online insurance and installment purchase of vehicles, card application and limit adjustment in the mobile internet platform.
