China Modern Financial Society (CMFS) is a national, academic, non-profit social organization initiated by Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and dedicated to theoretical and applied financial research. It falls under the professional administration of the People’s Bank of China and is registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs as its registration authority. Approved for registration on January 31, 1992, the Society was officially founded on January 18, 1993, and renamed China Modern Financial Society on December 26, 2019.

In recent years, the Society has fully implemented the CPC Central Committee’s deployment to develop new-type think tanks with Chinese characteristics and the requirements of the Party Committee of ICBC Headquarters to deepen the reform of its research system. Committed to building a world-class think tank, it has earned recognition from regulatory authorities and all sectors of society. In 2020, it was designated a key national social science academic association under the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee. It has been twice rated a 4A national academic association, secured funding for thematic academic activities of social science academic associations under the National Social Science Fund for six consecutive years, and twice received incentive subsidies for outstanding academic associations.

The Society’s core business activities are outlined below:

1．Research Projects

Centered on national financial strategies and the practical advancement of banking sector reform and development, the Society coordinates research resources and strengths and organizes member institutions to conduct research projects. Since its establishment, it has produced more than 5,000 research outputs and published over ten volumes of selected outstanding papers. It has undertaken numerous commissioned research projects for state authorities, delivering research support for financial reform and development.

2. Academic Journal

Journal of Modern Finance, the official journal of the Society, holds full accreditation across authoritative evaluation systems: Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI), A Guide to the Humanities & Social Science Core Journals in China, A Guide to the Core Journals of China, RCCSE Chinese Academic Journals (Category A), Chinese Core Journals of Science and Technology (Social Science Edition), and FMS Journal Rating Guide. Its composite impact factor has maintained continuous growth for 13 consecutive years, giving it significant influence within the financial research community.

3. Academic Exchanges

The Society hosts thematic forums, annual conferences and other academic events focusing on major domestic and international economic and financial issues. Jointly with ICBC, it organizes flagship academic platforms including the Annual Conference of China Modern Financial Society, China Finance Discipline Annual Conference, academic salons, Tue. Seminars and Postdoctoral Forum, creating branded platforms for research output exchange.
