Established in October 2002 with the official approval of the Ministry of Personnel, the ICBC Postdoctoral Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Center") is a premier research institution. Guided by the principles of rigorous governance, exacting standards, pioneering innovation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, the Center is dedicated to delivering impactful theoretical insights and strategic decision-making support for the reform and liberalization of the financial industry, as well as the high-quality development of ICBC.

As one of the first postdoctoral research centers established by a state-owned commercial bank in China, the Center marks a milestone in the sector's postdoctoral system. It serves as a strategic initiative for ICBC to attract, foster, and empower top-tier talent, tackle critical challenges in the bank's evolution, and drive business transformation. In 2016, with approval from the Office of the National Postdoctoral Management Committee, the Center earned the distinction of independently recruiting researchers—among the first in the commercial banking sector to do so. In the national evaluations held every five years, the Center was recognized as a National Outstanding Postdoctoral Research Center three times (2015, 2020, and 2025), a testament to its exceptional research capabilities, rigorous governance, and robust operations.

The Center has appointed renowned domestic scholars and industry experts to its Expert Steering Committee, providing researchers with dedicated, high-level mentorship. Furthermore, the Center offers comprehensive research facilities and a supportive environment, empowering researchers to drive innovation and generate high-impact outcomes.

As of year-end 2025, through a highly competitive and merit-based selection process, the Center has fostered 153 postdoctoral researchers across 23 cohorts. These researchers have spearheaded extensive studies, yielding high-impact results and successfully converting academic research into tangible business assets. The inception and growth of the Center have significantly bolstered ICBC’s research capabilities in cutting-edge financial theories and key project execution, providing both a strong theoretical foundation and a robust pipeline of talent to fuel the bank’s ongoing reform and innovation.
